10th (& Final) Fernie Tears & Gears

Saturday September 7, 2019

Long before Stag Leap Running Co., there was one mountain town and two mountain girls – with a mutual love for trails, races, sweat & exhilaration. Thus was born Fernie’s First Annual Mountain Duathlon in 2010, encompassing all that and then some. Tears & Gears for example. Tears & Gears is organized by Abi Moore (Stag Leap Running Co.), and Krista Turcasso (Fernie Fix), who for 10 years has put on a fun, family friendly race, designed to test the abilities, determination and strength of participants, while also celebrating the amazing terrain and trails available in Fernie.

A huge thanks to FAR for hosting us at our final race – racers enjoyed fun new routes, on intermediate FAR/Provincial Park terrain, ensuring the same family-friendly, grass-roots (with a touch of Fernie competitiveness, of course), vibe remained.

We can’t believe it’s been 10 years since we started. Thanks to everyone for playing, racing, volunteering or sponsoring over the years. This year sure was one of the best – and a great final Tears & Gears…

Run
9.5km with 569m ascent, this new route utilities some of the fastest, flowiest trails at Fernie Alpine Resort.
