“Roam from Home”: Going Virtual

It’s sure been a long time since we last sweaty high five’d on the trails *sigh*…

While we’re not quite there yet, we’re crossing our fingers that Thursday Run Club can start up again in June. In the meantime, we’re hoping to help trigger a little inspiration, with tips on how to “Roam from Home”, to help you set a realistic goal or two; form some strong, sustainable running habits; buddy up (safely) and build strength and confidence in your running.

Whether an experienced runner missing toeing the line, or a newer runner taking your first steps on the trails; whether you’re from Fernie or from further afield; we’re all in this together – and we sure can’t wait to see you back on the Fernie trails…

PART ONE: GOING VIRTUAL.

There are an endless supply of Virtual races out there right now, with many of them kicking off over the next few weeks.

So, if you’re a goal orientated runner, (aka chances of lacing up running shoes greatly increased by handing over a bit of dough for the promise of a medal and shirt), then have a read of the below…

How to choose the right one for you? Firstly, have a think about how much time you have for running and your current fitness level. While running across Canada might seem like a good idea in your goal orientated mind, in reality, it might not be your finest springtime running related, decision.

Shop local or support a Race Director and Race that you have a connection with. Many races across the globe have been forced to go local, but is there a local race you can support?

Need a carrot? What incentive do you need to cross that finish line? While paying an entry fee does make you more accountable, some can get pretty pricey. Would an online social community up your chances of success? If so, pick one with an active, honest, oversharing-style Facebook Group – there is so much support and love from the online running community, it (almost) makes you feel as though you’re running with friends. Buddy up! Would taking this on with a friend (or a dog), keep you going?

Where to start? Below are just a few, which cover a variety of distances and quirks – from clocking up your first 5km to running 1,000km across Tennessee, all while being chased by a imaginary buzzard…

Virtual Race NOT for you? Panic not, there are still many ways to keep on keepin’ on, and many other inspirations out there. Follow us for more tips over the coming weeks…

And until then, #StaySmart #StaySafe and #StopTheSpread
